ANDREA a grad of Maryland Institute College of Art, was one of the fortunate few who actually made a living as an artist. Developing and honing her love of type, she spent many years at a nationally known stationery company starting out in bow tying and finishing her stint as art department manager & senior designer. Babies came and a strong desire to work in a healthy, bright environment along with a long suppressed entrepreneurial spirit was all that was needed for her to join forces with her creative husband. With vast & varied experience in spatial design, both 2-D and interior, Andrea puts her talents to good use in designing kitchens & baths and guiding clients in the search for pleasing environments for themselves. She also is responsible for bringing in all the cool, new materials for the guys to manipulate, cut, saw, sand, shape...
DUSTIN after an apprenticeship at the John Gardner School of Boatbuilding, began his woodworking career at The Shipwright Co. Yacht carpentry affords a craftsman experience maneuvering in spaces far too small, putting to work the classic hand tools and problem solving extraordinaire. These skills eventually took Dustin into the home finish carpentry field, ultimately landing in Washington DC, working on some of the finest homes in the nation's Capital. Dustin also designs and builds furniture with a great attention to detail. Working with his brother in Charleston, West Virginia (if you are ever in Charleston, be sure to stop by & visit Colonial Woods), a sister company was born and Miko Wheeler Fine Countertops set up their first shop in Cadle Creek Marina.
THE WHEELERS including Ava & Finn live in Edgewater, Maryland, up the hill from the beach with a clear view of the South River. On the weekends you'll find them at the National Building Museum in DC, the Visionary Museum in Baltimore or most likely finishing up a project around the house (endless!) With Baxter the lab in tow, a visit to the pier to check on the growing oysters is a good end to any day.
